Do you know whether your baby is the size of an avocado or a grape? Whether your little peanut has eyelashes yet, or whether it can hear? Don't despair we've tried and tested the best apps for following and documenting your journey into parenthood.
Whether you're looking to record your growing bump, see what stage your baby is at in its development, or whether you need some name inspiration we have found an app for that!
1. Pregnancy +
Available on iPhone and Android
With everything you need to follow the development of your baby (or babies!) from poppy seed to watermelon (or water bear to lamb! - if you prefer to go off animal sizes). This app gives a day by day description and pictures of how your baby is developing, and gives you somewhere to record your appointments and to do lists. Plus with guides to help you write your birth plan, chart your weight and even a contraction timer it's a handy app to have in your toolkit.
2. What to Expect
Available on iPhone and Android
Part of the global "What to Expect When You're Expecting" phenomenon, this app is another way of following your baby's journey and your changing body. With videos, advice and real-life stories this app takes you from bump through to toddler years. You can also take part in groups to discuss your journey with others by location, interests or even getting support from those with similar medical conditions.
3. Baby Story - Pics Editor
Available on iPhone
A free app with in app purchases available, to add some fun to your bump and baby pictures. Add details such as dates and graphics to bump pictures, and create baby milestone pictures and stats as well as producing little graphics to share with your friends. A great little app to have some fun with.
4. Baby Centre
Available on iPhone and Android
From knowing the size of your baby and it's stage of development to meeting some amazing mummies due the same time as you, the baby centre app is one used by many mums. I used this app when pregnant with Annabel and met some of the most amazing mums - and we're still friends 4 years later. The perfect support network, just knowing that you're not alone, and being able to ask all of those 'is this normal' questions which you can't discuss with others! Basically Poo - we spent a lot of time discussing poo!
5. Kicks Count
Available on iPhone and Android
From the Kicks Count Charity, this app helps you be more aware of your babies movements. Helping you to record movements in a 'session' and giving you invaluable advice on what to do if something just doesn't feel right. A great reassurance app that ultimately reassures you that there is no such thing as 'wasting a midwife's time' when it comes to concern about your baby's movements.
6. Baby Names TM
Available on iPhone
With over 60,000 names to chose from you're bound to find something you like in here! This app gives you meanings, and popularity ratings as well as a list of notable people with your favourite name! Save your favourites and whittle down your options until you find the one, now you just need to convince your other half!
7. The Wonder Weeks
Available on iPhone
If you haven't heard of development milestones or 'leaps' before I cannot recommend this app enough!
"This app is also a handy reminder for new parents when their baby's brain is changing, or "leaping", the baby is making a significant advance in mental development, and with each step forward comes a drastic change in the way your baby sees the world around him. Because these leaps come so quickly, the "new world" and new abilities can sometimes be scary, and the development can initially manifest in poor sleep, bad appetite, crying, clinging and crankiness - exhausting and frustrating mom and dad"
Use the app to track where your baby is against the calendar and be more prepared for the journey.
8. Baby Tracker - Activity Log
Available on iPhone
Another one of my favourite Apps when I had Annabel, the Baby Tracker lets you record sleep, naps, feeding and so much more so you can identify your baby's routine, chart their growth - prove to your other half when you're sure they were up all night (they usually were), and even just remember which side you last fed on or how much they took.
Now updated with an apple watch app and the ability to ask Siri to start recording for you this app is amazing!
